One of two sister islands located in the Bristol Channel, Flat Holm has a strange diversity in flora, partly due to the sixth century monks, farmers and the military that once inhabited it. Plants were either deliberately imported to be used for food or medicine, or accidentally brought in on goods and personnel.

A Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSPI), with maritime sward, wind-blown scrub and farmed grasslands, it is one of the few places in Britain where the wild leek and the wild peony grow.

In this talk, Kirsten McEwan will present the plants and fungi found on Flat Holm and discuss their use in food, medicine and folklore.
